To construct such massive structures in today’s century is possible with the help of modern technology but in their own respective time, it was quite difficult. We can only just imagine how difficult it must be for them to create such historic monuments.

So let’s see some famous historical monuments and appreciate them:

1. Petra, Jordan

The reason Petra stands first on this list is that this site is one of the most visited and marvellous monuments from entire history. According to the history the Petra is developed from the ancient period which is 7000 B.C.E. It is said that the Nabataeans established the city it was their centre for administration and governance. But the invasion of the Roman Empire eradicated the Nabataeans kingdom.

Although the kingdom and rulers changed as per time but the beauty of the site remained intact. Still, you can see the city of Petra which is indicated as Rose Red City. The whole city is carved with red stones which looks completely mesmerizing. It is one of the perfect examples of incredible architectural work.

2. Taj Mahal, India

This is the only structure in the world which is listed in seven wonders of the world and a monument dedicated to love. The Taj Mahal is in the city called Agra, Uttar Pradesh in India. This wonderful historical monument is also listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its popularity can only be imagined by the number of visitors it gets every year. Total of 8 million visitors witnesses the beauty of Taj Mahal every year.

Taj Mahal is a clear example of Mughal and Persian architecture, the entire monument is constructed with white marbles. The Mughal emperor Shah Jahan started the work of Taj Mahal in the year 1631, he decided to dedicate this massive structure to his wife Mumtaz Mahal who died in the year 1631. In the year 1648, the construction of Taj Mahal was completed. Taj Mahal consists of a tomb in the centre and 4 minarets one at each corner.

3. Angkor Wat, Cambodia

It is the only temple in the world which gradually revamp to a temple of other religion. Angkor Wat is one of the biggest religious construction in the world which was dedicated to Lord Vishnu from Hindu mythology but later revamped into Buddhism. Angor Wat is the name given to the temple in the 12th century when it was founded but previously it was called Parama Visnuloka or Vrah Visnuloka.

One of the most interesting things about this temple is that it was constructed in a single night. Inside the premise of the temple, you will see different galleries where you can see stories from Hindu mythology like Ramayan and Mahabharat. All incidents are engraved into the stone of the temple. Devotees from all over the globe regularly visit Angkor Wat to view this historical monument. From the year 2012, the number of tourists has drastically increased and the number reached millions.

4. Colosseum, Rome, Italy

An amphitheatre that holds the capacity of more than 80,000 people at a time which is something big and spectacular. This amphitheatre is known as Flavian Amphitheater of Italy or The Colosseum. This amphitheatre is exactly in the centre of the city, the Romans created it. It took them 10 years to complete the entire Colosseum and now it is listed in the list of Seven Wonders of the World.

Due to some earthquakes, the Colosseum got damaged in a certain area but still the travertine limestone and concrete is holding the structure decently. In today’s time, the Colosseum is a sort of primary attractions for tourist in Italy. Every tourist is curious to see the place where the shows like Gladiator use to happens in those days. This amphitheatre was primarily used for meetings, mock sea battle and gladiators contest. As per the design, the first look of this Colosseum looks incomplete but it’s not true, this massive structure had set an example of true engineering work.

5. Chichen Itza, Mexico

Do you like to visit a colony or a civilization which is vanished but left many untold stories, then, you must consider visiting Chichen Itza. This is an entirely archaeological site where you will find ruins of Mayans and some other important structures. This site is present in the Yucatán State of Mexico. Now it is one of the biggest archaeological sites for tourism and for any archaeological team who needs to study and explore more about civilization.

This pyramid-like structure is called EI Castillo which is known as the Temple of Kukulcan. This temple is the primary attraction of tourists. The temple represents an example of the architectural style of Mexico, Chenes and Puuc style. 6. Parthenon, Greece

The monument was built around 447 and 438 B.C., and the entire construction was done on such a place from where everyone can see it. The Parthenon is a temple which resides above the city of Athens. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Athena. The temple contains several types of architectural features that are very famous all around the globe. Tourist visit this temple to see this amazing historical monument and other stuff related to that era.

Well, currently there is a re-construction project going on this temple. As the roof and other important structures are damaged due to the fire broke out incident. In the time of the fifth century, this temple was changed into a church and then later again converted into a mosque. However, the place has a deep history but the main aspect of this monument is its greatness. The entire structure is massive, the only way to experience its beauty is by visiting this amazing historical monument.

7. The Borobudur Temple Compounds, Indonesia

If you are a Buddhist then you may already know about this great historical monument. The Borobudur Temple Compound is a place in Indonesia. This place is entirely a cultural place and even recognised as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It is the largest Buddhist temple in the world. Every year visitors come here to witness the purity and peacefulness of this place. The location of this place is known as Magelang city in Central Java province of Indonesia.

This place contains majorly three Buddhist Temple which is Borobudur, Mendut and the Pawon. All the three temples were constructed in the 8th and 9th centuries. Another important and interesting fact about this temple is about their alignment, they happen to fall in a straight line and it was in the 20th century when this alignment was discovered. The Borobudur Temple is one of the biggest temples and it contains 504 statues of Buddha, 72 statue is inside of a stupa, with approximately 2672 relief panel. And all these are stacked on a 9 platforms base which consists of a central dome which is surrounded by 3 circular layers.
